App Naming
Why the releases have names, and where the names come from.
A version number says which release came first, and nothing else. So each release of Muninn and Huginn also gets a name, and each app takes its names from one place.
Muninn: Books about paying attention
Every Muninn release is named after a book: a record of somebody paying close attention to an ordinary place over a stretch of time. That is the thing Muninn exists to make easy.
- Walden Muninn 1.0
- Henry David Thoreau, Walden (1854)
- Thoreau鈥檚 record of deliberately watching an ordinary life: its routines, surroundings, seasons and small changes. 1.0 brings photos, imports and the diary together, which is the same act with the sources already at hand.
- Tinker Creek
- Annie Dillard, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek (1974)
- Annie Dillard鈥檚 record of observing the natural world around Tinker Creek.
- A Walk in the Woods
- Bill Bryson, A Walk in the Woods (1998)
- A story of friendship and adventure on the Appalachian Trail, capturing the experience and puzzling mundanity of walking through the woods.
Huginn: Roads people travel along
Muninn looks back; Huginn records where you went today and how you got there. So its releases are named after roads: the ones people travel along, not the addresses they stop at.
- Via Appia Huginn 1.0
- The Appian Way, Rome to Brindisi (312 BC)
- The first of the great Roman roads, and the one the saying is about: all roads lead to Rome. A first release starts here.
